Kedarnath

The Kedarnath Temple is an approximately 1200 year old Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. The temple is situated on the Garhwal Himalayan range near Mandakini river.

Kedarnath Dham is a holy Hindu pilgrimage site located in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sacred shrines in Hinduism known as the Char Dham, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The Kedarnath Temple is situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level, and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, making it one of the most picturesque pilgrimage sites in India. The temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas of the Mahabharata epic, and was later revived by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century AD.

The journey to Kedarnath is quite challenging, and involves trekking through steep and rugged mountain terrain. The temple is accessible by foot, horse, or helicopter. The trek starts from the town of Gaurikund, which is the last motorable point, and is about 16 km (10 miles) from the temple.

Kedarnath Dham holds immense significance in Hinduism, and is visited by thousands of devotees every year, especially during the Char Dham Yatra season (April to November). The temple remains closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall, and is reopened in late April or early May, depending on the weather conditions.
